Demain les chiens

Event & Exhibition

8 June 2024, 3 PM - 12 PM

Henri Fabre Park, Marseille

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Polynome collective presents Demain les chienx·s ("Tomorrow the Dogs"), a cultural event taking place from 3 PM to midnight at Parc Henri Fabre in Marseille.

An expansive artistic and musical program invites audiences to explore themes of animality, domination, otherness, and interspecies communication through the figure of the dog.

A quintessential companion animal and a widely recognized cultural figure, the dog opens a door to experiencing and understanding other species. While society often views our fascination with dogs as regressive or childish, a growing body of research challenges this perspective, instead using it to interrogate our relationship with non-human life and highlight broader cultural, social, and political issues. As philosopher Donna Haraway writes in her Companion Species Manifesto, “taking seriously the relationships between dogs and humans” can lead to “an ethics and politics committed to the flourishing of partnerships.” Simultaneously domesticated and used as insults or weapons of authority, dogs have also come to represent, for women and gender minorities, a final line of defense against violence—where the pack becomes a collective force of resistance.

Demain les chienx·s brings together 16 artists presenting visual, performative, and musical works that engage with non-human animals, inviting us to shift our perspectives and forge new, equitable, and generative forms of collaboration.

The event will take place in Parc Henri Fabre, one of the few spaces in Marseille where dogs are welcome and allowed to roam freely. This unique meeting ground will become a shared territory where dogs are considered full members of the audience.

In the spirit of inclusivity, the event will be free and open to all.
